Ann Riggs, DO

Dr. Riggs was born and raised in Warrensburg, Missouri.  She graduated valedictorian from Warrensburg High School in 1994.  She then attended Brigham Young University under an academic and athletic scholarship for the women’s basketball program.  She graduated with a BS in Zoology.  She returned to Kansas City to attend the Kansas City University of Medical Biosciences where she graduated among the top 15% in her class and served as the President of the National Honors Fraternity SIgma Sigma Phi.  She then went to the Via Christi Family Practice Residency Program in Wichita, Kansas.  She was selected as Chief Resident as well as Outstanding 1st and 3rd year resident.  Upon completion of residency she moved to Harrison, Arkansas where she practiced full spectrum family medicine including obstetrics.  After starting her own family she returned to Kansas City to practice.  Since 2009 she has been in Platte City, Missouri practicing traditional outpatient family medicine.  She has fallen in love with the community and surrounding areas.  She is excited to provide high quality care at an affordable price.  She is also a proud Big 8 fan and is willing to offer a $5 discount to anybody who is old enough to appreciate that.


Melanie Shockley, DNP, APRN, NP-C

Melanie is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner and graduated summa cum laude with a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Missouri State University. She was born in New Jersey, spent her childhood in St. Louis, and has called Kansas City home since 2007. Melanie graduated from Park Hill High School and attended Missouri State University where she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Upon graduation, she worked for 6 years as a Certified Emergency Nurse at a Level 1 Trauma Center where she met her husband. She enjoyed her time in acute care but decided to pursue a career as a Family Nurse Practitioner to fulfill her passion for promoting wellness and disease management and prevention. Melanie believes in personalized care plans to meet each patient’s individual needs. Melanie is an avid dog lover, traveler, military spouse, and enjoys cooking and trying new recipes with her husband.


Jessica Whiteman, MSN, APRN, FNP-C

Jessica is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner who graduated cum laude with a Masters in Nursing Practice from Chamberlain University. She was born in Illinois, spent her childhood in southern Missouri and has called St. Joseph MO home since 2006. Jessica graduated from Nixa High School and attended the University of Missouri- Columbia (go Mizzou!) where she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Upon graduation, she worked almost 9 years in pediatrics and more than 5 years in mental health and substance use recovery programs. Jessica has spent several years of her nursing career in the homeless community providing services at their camp, tent city, or shelters. She enjoyed working as a registered nurse but decided to pursue a career as a Family Nurse Practitioner while working under great leadership in the social welfare community setting. As a Nurse Practitioner her goal is health promotion and wellness, not just physical but psychosocial as well. Jessica believes every person deserves to have a provider that exhibits empathy, active listening, and allows an individual to have shared medical decision making in his/her healthcare. Jessica is married to her high school sweetheart and they have 3 sons. In her free time, Jessica enjoys gardening, singing, watching her kids play sports, fishing, and hanging out around a bonfire on a cool night.


Donna Schroeder, CMA

Donna is a Certified Medical Assistant and graduated with honors from Wellspring School of Allied Health. She was born in Southern California but grew up in Northwest Arkansas.  In 2000 she made Kansas City her home. For the last 15 years she has been a Licensed Massage Therapist but decided to further her passion in caring for others and entered medical assisting school.  She knew her background in helping others control and/or manage pain through a holistic way would be an asset in the medical field.

She loves finding adventures with her two children camping, hiking, or going to the lake as often as they can.  Donna is grateful to be a part of the Direct Medical Team and do her part in caring for all patients. 


Amy Horn, Nursing Assistant

Amy was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and raised in Weatherford, Oklahoma.  She graduated from Weatherford High School in 1991.  After marrying Colby Horn and living in many states for Colby’s career in the beef industry, they raised their 4 children:  Karlye, Colton, Hudson, and Gunner.  They have called Platte City their home for the since 2009.  Amy graduated from John Brown University with a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management.  While staying home and raising all four children, she realized she had a passion for caregiving and wellness.  This discovery led to her pursuing further education in the nursing field and attending classes at Missouri Western State University.  Amy is thrilled to be a part of the team and serve the Platte County community with all their healthcare needs. 


Karrie Strough, Nursing Assistant

Karrie was born and raised in York, Nebraska. After graduating high school, she attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri where she earned a Bachelors Degree in Marketing and Management.  She moved to Kansas City soon after graduation where she worked for a finance company for a number of years. She currently resides in North Kansas City.  Karrie started out as a medical office assistant in 2009 working with Dr. Riggs and transitioned quickly to a nursing assistant.  Karrie has three children and while caring for them is her highest priority, she is always eager and excited to get back to work with our team. Karrie is very dedicated, hardworking, and most of all enjoys interacting with patients.


Trinda Wolfe, LPN

Trinda was born and raised in Texas. After graduating high school, she attended Mclennan Community College in Waco where she earned an Associates degree in Communications and Professional Certification in Nursing. After working in public health for 2.5 years, she married a railroader and moved to the Kansas City area where she worked as a float nurse with Saint Luke's Medical Group. She later took a three year hiatus from nursing to care for her three young children. During this time, Trinda became the first in her family to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Park University. She currently resides in Weston, MO. Trinda is happy to put the stethoscope on and take care of patients again.


Riley Stehlik, Nursing Assistant

Riley recently graduated from Platte County High School and has started her studies in nursing at the University of Missouri—Kansas City. She participated in an immersion program her senior year through the Northland CAPS program in healthcare. She selected and earned an internship with Direct Medical Care. Her approach to learning, work ethic, calm nature, and personality make her an incredible addition to our team. She is excited to compliment her studies and care for individuals and families in the community she grew up in. Riley is a member of Alpha Delta Pi—a sorority dedicated to scholarship, leadership, service, and sisterhood. Riley was a very successful high school student and athlete. She continues to coach volleyball regionally for Highlands Performance Volleyball Club.
